Balaclava:
episode 1

In the teal-shadowed streets of Cape Town,

a petty thief turned supernatural courier must

navigate a city of "Goddogs" and African urban legends to deliver 1,000 stolen items and clear a life-altering debt.

 

But as his final delivery looms, he discovers that escaping the underworld might be harder than slipping through the walls that hold it together.

This is what the late, great Dr. Patricia Lutu would tell everyone about her artistic son.

Subi Bosa is an award-winning South African author and illustrator who creates vibrant, culturally rich stories. Originally trained in architecture at the University of Cape Town, his passion for visual storytelling led him to full-time children's literature.

Bosa’s distinct illustration style focuses on beautifully representing diverse African characters and landscapes. He studied graphic design at The Academy of Digital Arts in Cape Town- where he sometimes lectures a module or two.

 

His acclaimed work has earned prestigious honors, including the FAB Prize for Illustration, multiple Gold Pendoring Awards, and an international Moonbeam Children's Book Award. He is the creator of the graphic novel Nafu Wants Food and frequently runs community art workshops to empower young storytellers.

Subi lives in Cape Town, South Africa and produces

illustrations, picture books, comic books and graphic novels.

Nafu is Mongo Village's resident monster and protector, so the villagers happily give Nafu all the food they want. But after greedily gobbling up the last of it, Nafu heads into the desert in search of new and exciting things to eat. Instead, Nafu gets lost, their limbs fall off, and they start to shrink more and more each day. 

 

Can Nafu find their way home, or will someone make a meal out of Nafu?

A graphic novel for kids  (age 5-8 years)

The story explores greed, forgiveness and gluttony.
